World Environment Day

The Al-Mawa Reserve -Jerash

On World Environment Day, the Community Support Committees in Jerash, a project implemented by the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) with funding from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), organized a community event at the Al-Mawa Reserve under the patronage of the esteemed Governor of Jerash.

The World Environment Day activities began with an awareness session on the importance of the environment and caring for it through environmental messages directed at the participants. This was followed by a tree-planting campaign where 250 forest trees were planted within the reserve and in a designated area identified by the reserve's management to increase forest cover. The tree-planting campaign coincided with a cleanup campaign in the area surrounding the reserve. A total of 101 participants took part (54 refugees and 47 from the local community), along with community leaders and directors of official and civil departments. The day concluded with a tour inside the reserve to view the natural landmarks and wildlife for all participants.

This environmental day reflects the importance of joint community and international efforts to protect and preserve the environment for future generations and to make a real difference in facing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development worldwide.
